Question:

Last week I was very delighted I got a job (walhamdullilah) in an Internet service provider company in the Kingdom. What really bothered me was that I subscribe the users, some I know or tell me they want to subscribe to chat and look at sex pictures. Is the salary which I receive Haram or Halal?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

There is no doubt that it is a duty on all workers and above all those who work in providing services to the public to be sincere with them and advise them and clarify to them as to what benefits them. They should also urge them to respect the limits of Allah and endeavor to keep them away from what is harmful.

As far as you are concerned, dear brother, it is your duty to do your job as described to you in the best way you can. You should advise those who work with you to observe what Allah has prescribed to them and to fear Him; above all if you feel that they are doing or intending to do what Allah has forbidden to them since you are in a very good position. Allah Says (what means): {You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah.} [Quran 3:110]

If you are unable to enjoin good and forbid evil, and you know for sure that some of those who come to you use this service in what you have mentioned, then you should give up working with such a company so that you would not be among those who help in sin and transgression. Allah Says (what means): {Help you one another in virtue, righteousness and piety but do not help one another in sin and transgression.} [Quran 5:2]

You should know, dear brother, that Allah Says (what means): {And whosoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whoever relies upon Allah — then He is sufficient for him.} [Quran 65:2-3]

This is a promise from Allah and He never fails to keep His promise. May Allah guide you to the right path and enable you to do what pleases Him.

Allah knows best.
