Using a Jewish name

Question:

I have two questions. 1. I have son and we keep his name "UZAIR". so somebody says that it is a jewish name but this name is in Qur'an. So can tell me it is okay? Give me a full detail please. 2. Is it okay to celebrate our kid's birthday?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
There is no prohibition in Shariah to be named Uzair. So you may call your son Uzair.
Uzair was a known pious man among the sons of Israel. His name is mentioned in Qur'an when Allah points out the fabrications of Jews against Himself as they claimed that Uzair is the Son of Allah.
Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {And the Jews say: 'Uzair (Ezra) is the son of Allâh, and the Christians say: Messiah is the son of Allâh. That is a saying from their mouths. They imitate the saying of the disbelievers of old. Allâh's Curse be on them, how they are deluded away from the truth!} [9:30].
If the Jews use a certain name it does not mean that using the same name is prohibited for Muslims, except when it is clearly or expressly forbidden in Islam.
As for your second question, please refer to the Fatwa no:86137

Allah knows best.
