Daily bleeding and taking birth control pills

23-6-2002 | IslamWeb

Question:

I have bleeding almost everyday, and I know it's not time for my period, but I think it's from the birth control pill that I am taking. However, I do pray, but I am not sure if I am right or wrong.

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

The blood that the woman notices in days other than her normal menstruation period due to her taking pills or other things is not considered menstruation blood. So, she should not, in this case, leave performing prayers or fasting or any other thing the menstruating woman leaves during her period.
We remind the questioner, however, that taking contraception pills is not lawful except for a limited period and with the consent of the husband and provided that these pills do not have any negative effects on ones health.
Allah knows best.
