Question:
I work as an Imam at one of American prisons in which there are around 400 Muslim inmates. I got this question from their leader": we have among us a homosexual guy, when we first found out about his matter told him to make repentance and so he did, after while we found out that he still doing it (i.e., homosexuality) what should we do with this Muslim guy? Should we boycott him? And if so and some of us don't want to do so how can we deal with such issue from Islamic prospective? Please send us the answer ASAP.
Answer:
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
The solution of the mentioned problem is as follows:
a) Separate and isolate this person from the other prisoners, not permitting him to mix with them since there is confirmed danger from him, and others too. Probably he may spoil many of them and lead them to homosexuality; we ask Allah's Refuge from this evil.
b) Exhort this person privately, away from others, but no one should do so alone with him; even the one who wants to exhort him should not stay alone with him. A group of pious and good Muslims should take care of him, exhorting him, reminding him of Allah and His severe punishment for such sin, and of the bad consequences of this sin in this life and the Hereafter as well. They should also guide him to the good and lawful activities, so he can busy himself and pass his time in such activities.
Allah knows best.
