Question:

I've read and heard many times about pictures, that they are not good, and that an angel will not enter a room when there's a picture... But on this page I see the options to go to a photo gallery and pictures of the week. Is it less bad them I've read and heard?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Photography is of three kinds:

First, what is forbidden according to all the scholars of Islam and that is any three - dimensional thing, such as statues, etc.

Second, what is lawful according to all the scholars of Islam and that is the picture of any non-living being.

Third, pictures on which rule the scholars are not agreed. These pictures are of 2 kinds:

First, drawing pictures of living beings the majority of scholars forbids these drawing. This opinion is the most preponderant.

Second, taking photos with a camera; this is lawful according to the most preponderant opinion. But, it is safer to avoid doing so unless for a dire necessity.

For more details about pictures please read Fatwa: 81999 and 83351.

The pictures that are on our site fit into the category lawful pictures.

Allah knows best.
