Question:

Was Adam a Muslim?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Islam is the religion of all Prophets and Messengers from Prophet Adam sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) to Prophet Muhammed (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam).
Allah says reporting Nuh's words: {"But if you turn away [from accepting my doctrine of Islâmic Monotheism, i.e. to worship none but Allâh], then no reward have I asked of you, my reward is only from Allâh, and I have been commanded to be one of the Muslims (those who submit to Allâh's Will)."} [10:72]
Allah says about Ibrahim: {……it is the religion of your father Ibrahim (Abraham) (Islâmic Monotheism). It is He (Allâh) Who has named you Muslims both before…..} [22:78]
Allah says about Moses: {And Mûsa (Moses) said: "O my people! If you have believed in Allâh, then put your trust in Him if you are Muslims (those who submit to Allâh's Will)."} [10:84]
Yaqub (Jacob) and Yusuf (Joseph) both mentioned Islam.
Al Bukhari reported that the Prophet Muhammed (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: "All the messengers are brothers and their religion is one and unique." So, Adam is the first Prophet and the first Muslim. May Allah unite us with them all in Paradise.
Allah knows best.
