Question:
I like to listen to the recitation of the Holy Qur'an and always play the audio tapes of selected Surahs from the Holy Qur'an. But one Mufti told me, I won't get any blessings from Allah for listening to the recitation because of audio tapes. Please give me some advice.
Answer:
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
Listening to Qur'an is a form of worship. Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {So, when the Qur'ân is recited, listen to it, and be silent…}[7:204].
It is narrated in Sahihain from Ibn Masoud that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) asked him to recite some Qur'an for him and said: I love to listen to it from someone else .
Therefore, you may listen to the Qur'anic recitation through a recorder or being recited by someone else, because the main purpose is listening to Qur'an; the Words of Allah.
So, what the Mufti told you is not correct.
Allah knows best.
