Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. About Imam Malik , please read Fatwa:84200. As for Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal , the following is a brief summary of his biography: He is Imam Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Hanbal Bin Hilal Ash-Shaibani . He is the famous Imam who composed 'al-Musnad', 'az-Zuhd', and other rich compositions. He was born in Baghdad in 164 Hegira. He roved many countries - such as Kufa, Basra, Hijaz (in now Saudi Arabia), Yemen, Syria, and the Arabian Peninsula - seeking knowledge till he became one of the most prominent scholars of the Muslim nation. For that he was nicknamed "the Imam (leader) of the Sunnah and Jama'ah" i.e. the mainstream Muslims. Highly esteemed Muslim scholars attested to his knowledge in Islamic Jurisprudence. Through this Imam, whose school of Fiqh (Jurisprudence) became the fourth school followed by Muslims, Allah Almighty saved the Muslims from the trial of the creation of the Qur'an. Though he was imprisoned and severely tortured, he never admitted such falsification for he was aware that people will take his view for granted and consequently go astray from the Right Path. Due to his strong resistance and patience, he was granted a praiseworthy end to his life. Ash-Shafi'e said about him: I left Baghdad with nobody more knowledgeable, cognizant, ascetic, and pious than him. He died in 241 Hegira. May Allah The Almighty have mercy on his soul and guide us to make use of his knowledge. Allah knows best.
