Question:

Can your wife put on perfume if she'll only be in the company of her husband?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

The Muslim woman should always be keen to please her husband and win his love. She should endear herself to him by all lawful means. Hence, their marital life will go smoothly as deemed fit. The Messenger of Allah sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said to Muslim men: “Marry pleasant and fertile women (capable of conceiving children).” The Hadeeth goes further to give some detailed description of the characteristic of the good wife, saying that “she is the one if her husband looks at her, he is pleased by her appearance.” The wife is required to display her beauty to her husband and put on any perfume that is liked by her husband, unless this perfume is an intoxicating alcoholic liquid. In such case, it should be avoided, because the Muslim scholars unanimously agrees that any intoxicating liquid like liquor is unclean or violates the purity of the Muslim.

Allah knows best.
