Question:

My question is on Tafsir, In Surat Ahqaf verse 15 Allah (SWT) mentioned an individual that when he reached the age of 40 years he prayed a particular prayer to thank Allah. Some Commentator have mentioned $Abu Bakr$$ and $Sa'ad Ibn Abi Waqqas$$ in connection with this Ayah. I would like clarification on it back up with authentic Hadith.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Allah Says (what means): {And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his gestation and weaning [period] is thirty months. [He grows] until, when he reaches maturity and reaches [the age of] forty years, he says, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring.”} [Quran 46:15]

Allah informs in this verse that He ordered the human being to deal kindly with his parents and be helpful to them. Allah also made their obedience one of the best acts that help the person get closer and nearer to Allah. Allah also made their disobedience one of the worst and major sins. Allah then stated the reasons for the greatness of the parents' rights. Indeed, the mother suffered a lot while carrying him in her uterus, then when delivering him, and while taking care of him, …..etc. All this means that kindness and dutifulness should be dedicated to the parents. Allah then mentioned that the period of pregnancy and suckling is 30 months during which the mother bears a lot of hardship. Then when the child grows up and becomes strong and discerning he says: {“My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims.”} [Quran 46:15]

The verse as mentioned by the questioner was revealed as a commentary about Abu Bakr or Sa’d Ibn Abu Waqqaas may Allaah be pleased with them. Anyway, what is important is the essence and crux of the message.

Allah knows best.
