Ibn Daqeeq Al-Eed , in his "Ahkam Al-Ahkam Sharh Umdatul-Ahkam", commenting of the Prophet's Hadith (saying) …and the land was made Masjid (a place for prostration/ performing prayers)…": "The word Masjid lexically means 'the place of prostration', and traditionally it refers to the place built for performing prayer that include prostration as part of it.
