Du'a when making Wudu

Question:

I wanted to know if there were any particular Du'a to recited when making Wudu. For instance when washing the face, is there a Du'a for that, and for every other place that you wash for Wudu?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

It is not confirmed that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) used to say a Du’a when washing every limb during Wudu, as Imam Al-Nawawi and Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim said respectively in Al-Adhkar and in Zad Al-Maad, when washing the face or any other limb.

What is reported from the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) is that he used to say ‘Bismi Allah’ at the beginning of Wudu.

Abu Hurairah (Radiya Allahu Anhu) narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: “The Wudu of a person is not valid if he does not mention the name of Allah at the beginning.” [Reported by Abu Dawud, Tirmizi, and Ibn Majah]

However, there is a difference of opinion on whether it is authentic or not.

It is also confirmed that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) used to say some supplications at the end of Wudu.

Muslim reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) used to say when finishing Wudu:

I bear witness that None has the right to be worshiped but Allah, Who has no partners, and I bear witness that Muhammad is a servant and a Messenger of Allah.”

In the narration of Tirmizi there is an addition: “O, Allah! Make me among the people who repent and among those who seek purification.”

And in the Amal Al-Yawm Wal-Layla authored by al Nissa’e: 'How perfect you are, O, Allah, and I praise You.  I bear witness that None has the right to be worshipped except You.  I seek Your Forgiveness and I turn to You in repentance.'

Allah knows best.
