All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
Even though it is allowed in principle to marry the women of the People of the Book, it becomes disliked to marry them because of the contemporary disadvantages that could result from such marriage. We have already clarified this in Fatwa 84724, and your situation with your wife is the best example.
Your wife is sinful as she brought the wine to your home and invited some people to drink it. This matter is even more sinful if there are among the people whom she invited alien men. Indeed Allaah considered the man as the protector and provider in his home, so if the woman exceeds the limits and does not obey her husband in things she is obliged to obey him, then she is a disobedient woman. In this case the husband should treat her as a disobedient woman and should follow the steps clarified by Allaah when dealing with such a woman. This is discussed in Fatwa 89480. If the attempts to turn her into a righteous woman are of no avail, then it is better to divorce her, as there is no good in keeping her as a wife in this situation and she has no right in the fostering of the children. Please refer to Fatwa 89418 regarding the fostering of children.
As regards going to the church in order to seek blessings from the priest, then this is forbidden, rather this is Shirk [associating partners to Allaah] as you mentioned.
Allaah Knows best.
