The ruling on selling manuscripts in Hebrew

30-3-2006 | IslamWeb

Question:

Is it permissible to sell manuscripts (which contain verses from the Torah dated more than 800) in Hebrew? It should be noted that these manuscripts do not attack the Islamic or Christian religion. Please answer in details as it is a very important subject.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

If these manuscripts contain falsehood or that their distribution contributes to falsehood, then it is not permissible to buy them, sell them, or keep them unless one wants to refute the falsehood that is in them. However, if they do not contain any falsehood or anything that supports  falsehood, then there is no harm in buying them, selling them, or keeping them as there is no evidence which prohibits this as far as we know.

Allaah Knows best.
