Yellow clothes for men

Question:

salam alykum, can a muslim man wear a yellow shirt?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

There is no harm for a man to wear yellow clothes. The Fiqh Encyclopaedia reads: ''The jurists may Allaah have mercy upon them agreed that it is permissible to wear yellow clothes provided they are not dyed with safflower or with saffron. The evidence is that 'Abdullaah Ibn Ja'far may Allaah be pleased with him said: 'I saw the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) wearing two yellow garments.' Moreover, 'Imraan Ibn Muslim may Allaah have mercy upon him said: ''I saw Anas Ibn Maalik may Allaah be pleased with him wearing a yellow lower garment.' Nonetheless, the scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them differed in opinion about the permissibility of wearing clothes dyed with safflower or saffron; some prohibited them and some disliked wearing them. Moreover, if these yellow clothes are peculiar to women in a certain society, then it is not permissible for a man to wear them as it is forbidden for men to imitate women and the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) cursed the men who imitate women. Allaah Knows best.
