Question:

My question is, if one of party openly denyed the teachings of islam. Whatever instructions given by the Sharia, and one muslim party is opposing it, how do u see? will it be correct to vote them and select them even we knew that they are oppossing Islam? I will appreciate if you can put some light on it, I intentially didn't mention party name to avoid any kind of misunderstanding.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

It is not permissible for a Muslim to vote to a party whose ideology is not based on the basis of the religion of Allaah, because by voting to such party, one helps in sin and transgression and it reflects being pleased with something which contradicts the methodology of the Quran, and being loyal to the disbelievers, unjust people and transgressors.

On the contrary, a Muslim should be loyal to Allaah and His Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) and to the believers. So, he should select (vote to) a Muslim who is known to be strong (in his personality and achieving the good for which he was elected) and trustworthy and religious, and who is expected to achieve a benefit for Islam and for the Muslims.

For more benefit on the ruling of participating in elections in general, please refer to Fatwa 81429, and for more benefit on secularism, please refer to Fatwa 84437.

Allaah Knows best.
