Question
1- What is the ruling on using cosmetics containing parts of human embryos?
2- What is the ruling on using cosmetics containing parts of the placenta and umbilical cord of the fetus?
3- What is the ruling on using cosmetics containing ingredients extracted from animal embryos, including pigs?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

It is not permissible to show aggression towards human embryos or destroy them intentionally, because they are the origin of humans. Thus, they should be honored and respected, no matter how old they are. They have to be buried and should not be thrown in garbage.

Whenever it is certainly known that some cosmetics include something of that, they become impermissible to use. The same ruling applies to cosmetics manufactured from the placenta and umbilical cord. How can a sane woman apply something that is manufactured from such remnants to her face?

What is stated in the question actually confirms many reports that speak about disrespecting human bodies and the bad materials used in manufacturing such cosmetics, which in turn cause many fatal diseases, such as cancer and the like.

Furthermore, using human or animal embryos for manufacturing cosmetics may entail using impurities such as the blood of that embryos. Accordingly, it is not permissible to use cosmetics manufactured from such embryos, whether they are of humans or animals such as pigs or the like.

Allaah Knows best.
