'Ma’ariful Quran’ by Mufti Muhammad Shafi

Question:

Assalamu alaiakum. What would you say about reading the tafsir by the late Grans mufti of Pakistan, Mufti Mohammed Shafi entitled Ma'ariful Quram. Is this a good tafsir, or does it contain errors?
Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

 

We cannot precisely issue a ruling on this book as this necessitates reading it throughout and carefully. In our view, one may benefit from it; however, in matters relating to Tawheed (e.g. Islamic Creed, The Names and Attributes of Allaah), the reader should compare it to other reliable Tafseer books, (interpretations of the Quran) like the Tafseer of Ibn Katheer may Allaah have mercy upon him.
