Kissing hands of elders who are not Mahram

Question:

with reference to fatwa # 83692, i would like to have further clearification " shall the one who is kissing and the one who is kissed must have a bllod relation or can say mahram to each other , or it is in general regardless of being mahram and namahram "

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

The blood relationship is not a condition in the ruling which is mentioned in the Fatwa to which you are referring; this act is permissible with an elder even if he is not a relative. However, if this is between a man and a woman, then it is a condition that there must be a sound reason for its permissibility, like a marital relationship [between the husband and wife] or being a Mahram (i.e. a person whom one is permanently prohibited from marrying due to suckling, marital, or blood relations).

This act is forbidden between a man and a marriageable woman and vice-versa.

For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 82318.

Allaah Knows best.
