Muslims should be careful of giving children dubious names

Question

We have named our son Subhan aaryan adnan is that ok? Will this affect his personality and life? Some websites say you shouldnt use the name subhan

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

Evidently, there is nothing wrong with naming the child “Subhaan” without being added to the name of Allaah (Subhaan Allaah, i.e. Glory to Allaah). There is no religious violation involved in this.

We are hopeful that this name would not have a negative impact on the person.

It is better, though, to give our children names of the prophets and Companions or other commendable names. Parents are advised to avoid giving their children dubious names.

Allaah Knows best.
