Internet Addiction Is Curable

Question

How can one get cured from internet addiction?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

A Muslim should know the following facts:

Firstly, the wisdom behind the creation of man and the purpose of his existence is to worship Allah, the Exalted. He says (what means):

· {And I did not create the Jinn and mankind except to worship Me.} [Quran 51:56]

· {Then did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned?} [Quran 23:115]

Secondly, he should know that his life is nothing but these few days and hours that he is spending in the life of this world. When a day passes, a part of a person's life has passed, and it will not return until the Day of Judgment. Al-Hasan Al-Basri may Allaah have mercy upon him said, “O son of Adam, you are nothing but (a number of) days. Whenever a day passes, part of you has gone”.

Thirdly, he will be held accountable for every second of his life on earth. Abu Barzah Al-Aslami may Allaah be pleased with him reported that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “The feet of a slave of Allah shall not move [on the Day of Judgment] until he is asked about five things: his life and how he spent it, his knowledge and what he did with it, his wealth and how he earned it and what he spent it on, and his body and what he wore it out for.” [Al-Albani in Saheeh Al-Jami‘: authentic]

Fourthly, a Muslim should strive in observing obedience to Allah, the Exalted, and carrying out righteous deeds as provisions for him in the Hereafter, for this is what will avail him then. When one strives to rectify his self in the life of this world, he will relish elevation in it and in the Hereafter as well. Allah, the Exalted, says (what means):

· {And those who strive for Us – We will surely guide them to Our ways. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good.} [Quran 29:69]

· {And strive for Allah with the striving due to Him.} [Quran 22:78]

Fifthly, a Muslim should organize his time and set a daily schedule for all the things that he needs to do. He should not let any free time go to waste. Instead, he should preoccupy himself with what benefits him in the life of this world and the Hereafter.

Allah knows best.
