Diversifying methods to urge children to pray regularly

Question

If my children are older, do I have to punish them for not waking up to perform the Fajr (dawn) prayer on time? Best regards.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

You are required to offer them advice, remind them of Allaah and use all available means to urge them to wake up for prayer, such as going to bed early and using an alarm clock.

If this is useless, you should alternate between encouraging them and intimidating them, even to the extent of not fulfilling some of their desires or punishing them through either reprimand or desertion.

We ask Allaah to help you, grant you success and reform your children.

Allaah Knows best.
