A friend of mine is interested in starting a publishing business. However, the books that will be published contain bad language and explicit sex acts. Is it Haraam for a Muslim to be a part of this type of business, giving the type of material that will be published?

Accepted Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

If the books which your friend is planning to publish contain naked pictures, or contain bad language that incites adultery or fornication, or contain what obstructs people from the path of Allaah or prevents them from obeying Him, then it is forbidden to publish such books. If your friend publishes the books, you will bear her sins and the sins of whoever reads them and went astray because of reading them. So, it is forbidden to help her publish those books if they contain what we have mentioned as Allaah Says (which means): {…but do not help one another in sin and transgression.}[Quran 5:2].
