Five people were killed when several grenades exploded during a Sunday service at a Protestant church in the diplomatic enclave of Islamabad, police and witnesses said. Calling it a "terrorist attack," Islamabad police chief Nasir Durrani told reporters at the scene that the blasts happened at about 10:50 a.m. as about 150 people worshipped at the Protestant International Church only 250 meters far from American Embassy. American diplomatic sources said that among victims is also wife and daughter of American diplomat.

"So far five persons are dead and around 45 are injured," he said. "The church was used by foreigners of all nationalities." Durrani said one or two men tossed the grenades into the main place of worship for Protestants in Islamabad's expatriate community. Police cordoned off the area but broken glass and splintered wood could be seen on the front steps.
