Question:
I have a sister who has ovarian cysts in her womb, and she fasted for two days in Ramadan. She has her menses daily when it is nearly time for Maghrib Athaan (call for the prayer), so shall she make up for these days or what?
Fatwa:
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
If the blood discharges which your sister has are menses, as in the question, and that she has these discharges during the day in Ramadan, whether at the beginning of the day or at the last part of it, then her fasting is not valid. That is because it is a condition for the validity of fasting that a woman should not be in menses or in postpartum bleeding, and she has to make up for these days as it is evident that her fasting is not valid.
Allah Knows best.
