At least 35 people died when a bus collided with a milk tanker and caught fire in central Pakistan, police have said.

The accident happened late on Monday near the city of Muzaffargarh, Yousaf Lashari, the area police chief, said.

The bus was speeding when it struck the other vehicle on a narrow road, then immediately began to burn, he said.

At least 35 people died, and police were still trying to establish identities, Lashari said.

Fatal road accidents are common in Pakistan, where disregard for traffic rules is widespread.

Muzaffargarh lies about 75km northwest of Multan, which is the main city in the country's eastern Punjab province.
