She, may Allah be pleased with her, was one of the female companions who migrated from Makkah to Madeenah. She embraced Islam in Makkah, and gave the pledge of obedience to the Prophet . However, she, may Allah be pleased with her, was not able to migrate until the seventh year (7 AH).

She, may Allah be pleased with her, migrated during the period of the treaty of Al-Hudaybiyyah. Her two brothers, Al-Waleed and 'Umaarah, went after her but could not catch up with her until she has reached Madeenah. They went to the Prophet and said to him: 'O Muhammad! Fulfill our condition (i.e. agreed upon in the Al-Hudaybiyyah treaty)
She, may Allah be pleased with her, said: "Are you going to send me back with them and allow them to tempt me with regard to my religion. You know how weak we women are?" Thereupon, Allah Almighty revealed the verses (which mean): {O Prophet, when the believing women come to you pledging to you that they will not associate anything with Allah, nor will they steal, nor will they commit unlawful sexual intercourse, nor will they kill their children, nor will they bring forth a slander they have invented between their arms and legs, nor will they disobey you in what is right – then accept their pledge and ask forgiveness for them of Allah. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful * O you who have believed, do not make allies of a people with whom Allah has become angry. They have despaired of [reward in] the Hereafter just as the disbelievers have despaired of [meeting] the inhabitants of the graves.} [Quran 60: 12-13]

Thereafter, the Prophet used to ask any woman who came to him (from Makkah): "I ask you by Allah! Was the love of Allah and His messenger the only reason for you to come here and not to be reunited with your husbands or wealth?" the one who would reply with the affirmative was then allowed to stay and he would not send her back to the disbelievers.

Umm Kalthoom may Allah be pleased with her, was not married in Makkah, and thus Zayd ibn Haarithah may Allah be pleased with him, married her, and after a while he divorced her. After that, 'Abdur-Rahmaan ibn 'Awf may Allah be pleased with him, married her and she gave birth to Ibraaheem and Humayd.
After the death of 'Abdur-Rahmaan ibn 'Awf may Allah be pleased with him, 'Amr ibn Al-'Aas may Allah be pleased with him, married her and she may Allah be pleased with her, died while she was married to him. She died during the era of 'Ali ibn Abu Taalib may Allah be pleased with him.
She reported a total of ten Prophetic narrations one of which was related by Imaams Al-Bukhari and Muslim .
