In spite of all the means that the Prophet pursued, he did not depend on them absolutely. Rather, he was totally confident in Allah The Almighty, ardently hoping for His support, always repeating the supplication that Allah The Almighty taught him in the verse (what means): {And say, “My Lord, cause me to enter a sound entrance and to exit a sound exit and grant me from Yourself a supporting authority.”} [Quran 17:80]
In this noble verse, there is a supplication that Allah The Almighty teaches to His Prophet to say and teach to his Ummah (nation), directing them how to supplicate Allah The Almighty and how to turn to Him. It is a supplication to be granted sound entrance and sound exit as a metonymy of the soundness of the whole journey from beginning to end. Soundness here had real value because of the attempts of the polytheists to tempt him away from that which was revealed to him and to make him invent about Allah The Almighty other than that. Soundness also has its fruits; the fruits of steadfastness, reassurance, purity of the heart and sincerity. Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {and grant me from Yourself a supporting authority,} [Quran 17:80] an authority of power and majesty with which I rise above earthly authority and above the power of the polytheists. The phrase “From Yourself” indicates nearness to Allah The Almighty, and contact with Him, directly seeking His help and resorting to His protection.
The one who carries the cause of Da‘wah (propagation) can only derive authority from Allah The Almighty. He cannot be feared except by the authority of Allah The Almighty. He cannot seek the authority from a ruler or high ranking person to protect him as long as his direction before this was not to Allah The Almighty. Da‘wah may invade the hearts of people of authority and high-ranking people, and they may become soldiers and servants of Da‘wah so they succeed; but Da‘wah does not succeed if it is one of the tools of those who have authority or high-ranks. It is a matter from Allah The Almighty and higher than any authority or rank.
When the polytheists surrounded the cave, the Prophet reassured Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, that Allah The Almighty was with them. It is narrated on the authority of Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, that, “I said to the Prophet while we were in the cave, ‘If one of them looks down to his feet, he will see us.’ The Prophet said: ‘What do you think of two people, the third of whom is Allah?’” [Al-Bukhari] In another narration, the Prophet said: “Be silent, Abu Bakr; [We are] two [persons] and Allah is the third.”
Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {If you do not aid the Prophet - Allah has already aided him when those who disbelieved had driven him out [of Makkah] as one of two, when they were in the cave and he said to his companion, “Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us.” And Allah sent down His tranquility upon him and supported him with angels you did not see and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowest, while the word of Allah - that is the highest. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.} [Quran 9:40]
