Question

I had a car accident in Saudi Arabia and a plate was implanted in the right thigh and a part of the right leg muscle was cut or removed. The wound would be exposed if uncovered. Is it permissible to cover the wound at the end of the leg with a bandage or muslin that is used in surgeries while performing the Hajj rites as I do not wish that people pity me. Please advise, may Allah reward you.
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His Slave and Messenger.
There is no harm in wrapping a piece of cloth around the wound that is in your leg and you will not have to offer a Fidyah (expiation) for this as this is not among the prohibitions of Ihraam (ritual consecration).
An-Nawawi said, "The Shaafi‘i scholars say that if the one who is in the state of Ihraam has a wound and wraps a piece of cloth around it and this is not in his head, he would not thereby be liable for a Fidyah. However, if this wound is in his head, he should give a Fidyah because it is prohibited to wear anything on the head, be it a form-fitting cloth or not, but he will not be held sinful because he has an excuse".
And Allah knows best.
