Question

What is the meaning of the Hadeeth which says that it is forbidden to wear clothing dyed with saffron? What is meant by “dyed with saffron?"
Fatwa
All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His Slave and Messenger.
It seems that the questioner means the Hadeeth narrated on the authority of Ibn ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him and his father, in which he said, "The Prophet forbade the Muhrim (a person who is in a state of Ihraam) to wear clothes dyed with ‘wars’ or saffron." [Al-Bukhari and others]
Briefly, the Hadeeth means that a person, man or woman, who is in a state of Ihraam (ritual consecration) to perform either Hajj or ‘Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) is forbidden from wearing perfumed clothes. Saffron and wars are two types of perfume and therefore a person in a state of Ihraam is forbidden to wear clothes dyed with them.
And Allah knows best.
