Answer
In the Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Ever-Merciful

Dear brother,
Assalaamu ‘Alaykum,

We ask Allah The Exalted to bestow upon us the blessing of witnessing Ramadan for which our hearts yearn. We implore Him to render it a month of repentance, forgiveness and mercy for all of us.

Indeed, exercising is very beneficial for your overall health and can be undertaken in the month of Ramadan easily. Most people who exercise in Ramadan find that the most efficient way to do so is before breaking the fast. Working out before breaking the fast is more fruitful due to the low blood sugar while fasting, which is very good for one’s health and well-being.

However, if you feel too exhausted after exercising while fasting, you can work out at any other time. For example, you can work out after the Taraaweeh Prayer [voluntary night Prayer]. However, exercising at night has its disadvantages as it may lead to having sleep disturbances. Exercise tends to rev up your system at a time when you are better off relaxing and preparing for bed. However, this does not apply to all people.

As for the duration of the workout, half an hour to forty minutes is suitable for most people, and we ask Allah The Exalted to grant you good health and well-being.

May Allah grant us success.
