Question

My wife forgot to shorten her hair after having performed ‘Umrah (lesser-Hajj) and we had sexual intercourse. Afterwards, she remembered that she had not shortened her hair. What is the ruling?

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

The selected opinion of the majority of scholars is that having sexual intercourse with one's spouse after performing the Sa‘y (walking between Mounts As-Safaa and Al-Marwah) of ‘Umrah and before shortening one’s hair or shaving one's head (for men) does not invalidate the ‘Umrah. However, whoever does this is required to slaughter an animal if he/she did so whilst knowing and remembering the ruling.
