Question:
Is it Sunnah to complete entire Quran recitation in Salaatul Taraaweeh prayers during Ramadan? Some peoples are completing entire Quran within 6 days (each night 5 Juz') at the starting days of Ramadan. They fear that they might not continue Taraaweeh prayer in the same mosque and as a result they may lose the sequence or chain of the entire Quran completion in Taraaweeh prayers. Please explain this action according to Sunnah.
Fatwa:
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
A group of scholars, may Allah have mercy on them, are of the view that it is desirable to finish reciting the whole Quran during Taraaweeh (the night prayer during the month of Ramadan). So, if a congregation can finish reciting the whole Quran more than once during Taraaweeh without causing a great difficulty to the praying people, then this is good. The general principle that should be observed is that the Imaam should take into consideration the circumstances of the congregation, so he should recite a part of the Quran [not being very long or very short] during Taraaweeh so that he does not make them shun away from the congregation, as some scholars, may Allah have mercy on them, have stated.
Finally, it should be noted that a Muslim is not obliged to perform Taraaweeh prayer in a particular mosque and does not go to other mosques, he is also not obliged to attend Taraaweeh prayer during the whole month until the recitation of the whole Quran has been accomplished, but if one does so, then this is better.
Allah Knows best.
