British Temperatures Break Records

Britain has recorded its hottest day ever. At Heathrow Airport, just west of the capital London, temperatures reached a record-breaking 37.9C (100.22F), breaking Cheltenham's previous record of 37.1C (98F) in 1990.
Brits soaked up the sun but with the sweltering temperatures came electric storms. At a football match in Birmingham one woman had a heart attack and 14 other people were injured when lightning hit the crowd.
Meanwhile, Portugal's forest fires are continuing to kill. At least 15 people have now died in blazes across the country. But there are hopes that fatalities caused by the fires will end as firefighters report the blazes are now under control and no longer spreading.
Since the beginning of the year, 200,000 hectares of forest have been destroyed, most of them since July.
Italy is not being spared. There are several fires around the capital. Two teenagers were arrested as they apparently tried to start a fire in a forest close to Rome.
Although vigilance is welcomed, Italian authorities are concerned that people are becoming too careful. The emergency number for the fire brigade broke down on Saturday after it received more than 11,000 calls in a day.
