Israeli soldiers have killed a leader of the Islamic Jihad movement and three other Palestinian activists in raids on the Gaza Strip and West Bank, which drew immediate vows of revenge. Diab Shyoukhi, Islamic Jihad's leader for the southern West Bank, was shot dead along with another militant at their hideout near the city of Hebron. Two more Palestinians were killed in a gunfight in a refugee camp in central Gaza.Palestinian gunmen shot dead an Israeli soldier during the raid. The violence has dealt a new blow to the already slim hopes of progress on the US-backed road map for peace. Meanwhile, Israel has been shocked by the refusal of a group of pilots to carry out missions in Palestinian territories in which civilians could be killed. But the country's defence minister, Shaul Mofaz, said Israel will continue with its operations in the Gaza Strip to dismantle the "terrorist organisations" in order to defend its civilians. Refering to the rebel pilots, Mofaz said those taking part would be severely punished. In the past month, in response to a Hamas bomb attack which killed 23 bus passengers in Jerusalem, Israel has sharply intensified its campaign of so-called "targetted attacks". **PHOTO CAPTION*** Palestinians gather around the body of Islamic Jihad group member Nour Abu Armaneh, killed by Israeli forces in al-Bureij refugee camp in the Gaza Strip.
