A Palestinian man has died after being shot by Israeli soldiers during a raid into the West Bank city of Ramallah.
Another eight Palestinians were wounded when around 40 Israeli army jeeps and armored trucks stormed Ramallah on Tuesday evening.
The troops entered the city shortly after 1630 GMT, imposed a curfew in the town center and surrounded the Abdul Nasser mosque, according to witnesses.
Palestinian sources also said around 10 Israeli jeeps invaded the nearby university town of Bir Zeit, close to where a group of Israeli soldiers was ambushed on Sunday night.
**Clear Message from UN***
Stop building your West Bank wall! That is the message to Israel from the United Nations. Washington's representative may have voted against the move but the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly approved a resolution demanding the Jewish state halt construction of its so-called security fence, concluding that the barrier is contrary to international law.
The Israeli Ambassador Dan Gillerman called the proceedings a "humiliating farce" and Israel's delegation made a hasty exit. Arab states took the dispute to an emergency session of the 191-nation General Assembly after the US last week vetoed a similar measure in the 15-nation Security Council.
Israel insists that the wall which is already some 145 kilometres long is aimed at preventing bomb attacks on its soil. But the Palestinians argue that building it deep into West Bank territory is part of Israel's attempts to head off any possibility of an eventual Palestinian state.
