Three U.S. soldiers were wounded in an attack on a southern Afghanistan base, a military spokesman said Monday. One attacker was killed in the gunfight that erupted when about 15 attackers assailed the base at Deh Rawood in Uruzgan province early Sunday, Lt. Col. Bryan Hilferty said. The wounded soldiers were flown to the main U.S. base at Bagram, 250 miles northeast near the capital, Kabul. They were in stable condition, Hilferty said. It was unclear whether the assailants were affiliated with the Taliban or other groups who have mounted a wave of attacks on soldiers, government targets and aid workers across Afghanistan's south and east. **PHOTO CAPTION*** An Afghan man cycles past an Afghan National Army soldier with a rocket propelled grenade launcher Sunday Jan. 18, 2004 in Kabul, Afghanistan.
