At least 34 persons were killed in floods that lasted for two days in the west of Saudi Arabia, according to Saudi papers issued on Friday.

The Saudi daily Okaz said that 28 persons were killed in Aseer and nine in Jeddah where searches continued for an 11 member family driven by water.

However, the Saudi daily al-Watan said that 34 persons were killed while the Saudi official News agency gave no mention to the floods.

The Saudi papers issued pictures for the bodies of the victims and road accidents covered with waters in addition to dead cattle.

Floods are considered a unique phenomenon in Saudi Arabia which is known as a drought area but these happen frequently because of thunder rains.

The last wave of floods resulted in killing 29 persons in January 2005 in al-Madina al-Munawarra and 12 killed persons in November in Mecca and 19 killings in April 2002.
