Her non-Muslim family raises conceptions about the Quran Fatwa No: 136397
- Fatwa Date:6-6-2010
Assalamu alaikum, Some people says that Koran was originally written in Armenian language and that al-hoor al-‘iyn actually was wine grapes but was translated wrongly, what is correct view in this matter? And what shall i say to these people? I live in Finland and my family is christian so i get a lot of questions, especially when media shows programs that is telling about terrorism and they make Islam look bad.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
First of all, we ask Allaah to expand your chest and help you to do what is right and guide your family to the true religion.
This claim that you mentioned in the question is too silly to be worth refuting and any learned person – even if he is a non-Muslim – would not say it because thinking about it is enough reason to deny it.
The Quran was revealed to an Arab Prophet who lived in the Arabic peninsula. Neither him nor his people spoke any other language than Arabic, neither Aramaic language nor any other language. Allaah Says (what means): {And We did not send any messenger except [speaking] in the language of his people to state clearly for them.}[Quran 14:4]
It is for this reason that when the liars claimed that the Prophet learnt the Quran from some People of the Book, like from the monk Baheera and others, the Quran refuted their false claim clarifying that those people are non-Arabs and that the Quran is in clear Arabic. Allaah Says (what means): {And We certainly know that they say, “It is only a human being who teaches him [i.e. the Prophet ()].” The tongue of the one they refer to is foreign, and this [i.e. Quran] is [in] a clear Arabic language.}[Quran 16:103]
As-Sa’di said: “Allaah informs us about the statement of the polytheist who deny His Prophet that {…they say: It is only a human being who teaches him} this book that he brought, and the human being to whom they refer is a non-Arab, {and this} i.e. the Quran {..is [in] a clear Arabic language.}, so can this statement be possible? Can it be probable? But the liar tells lies and does not think about what his lies lead to, so his statement will be full of contradictions that necessitate refuting it just by thinking about it.”
On the other hand, if the Quran had been revealed in a language other than Arabic, the polytheists from Makkah would take the initiative to deny it as Allaah Says (what means): {And if We had made it a foreign [i.e. non-Arabic] Quran, they would have said, ‘Why are its verses not explained in detail [in our language]? Is it a foreign [recitation] and an Arab [messenger]?”.}[Quran 41:44] Ibn Katheer said: “It means: How would a non-Arabic book be sent to Arabic – speaking people who do not understand it?”
As regards what you mentioned about your family and their numerous questions, then we advise you to endeavor to seek religious knowledge which is not only a way to be safe from their misconceptions, but also a means to call them to the true religion [Islam]. Therefore, you should learn Islam and the tenets of Islamic faith, and then take the initiative to call your family to the truth. You should also clarify to them that the acts of the people who affiliate themselves with Islam are not an evidence against Islam, rather, the evidence is in the Quran and the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad .
Furthermore, you should avoid discussing the secondary issues, like those related to terrorism or else. Rather, you should be concerned with the correct creed, Tawheed (the Oneness of God), and ‘Eemaan (faith). Indeed, you may read the interpretation of the meaning of Chapter Aal-Imraan [Quran, Chapter 3], and you should make this as the subject of dialogue with your family and other Christians. Verily, in this Chapter, there are general issues and important principles for addressing the People of the Book. Allaah Says (what means): {Say, “O People of the Scripture, come to a word that is equitable between us and you-that we will not worship except Allaah and not associate anything with Him and not take one another as lords instead of Allaah.” But if they turn away, then say, “Bear witness that we are Muslims [submitting to Him].”}[Quran 3:64]
Finally, you may make use of the following Fataawa in calling your family to Islam:
For more benefit on the merits of Islam, please refer to Fataawa (plural of Fatwa) 85456 and 102075 and to Fataawa 81979, 88906 and 88051 on that Islam is the religion of all the Prophets, may Allaah exalt their mention, to Fatwa 85234 on that Islam is from Allaah, and finally to Fatwa 111063 on that everything in the universe testifies that Islam is the true religion.
Allaah Knows best.
