All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
Your Hajj is valid in any case if it is free from anything that invalidates it. Spending the night at Muzdalifah is one of the obligations of Hajj according to the view of the majority of the scholars and if one neglects it, he is obligated to offer a sacrifice as we clarified in Fatwa 81832.
According to the Shaafi’i and Hanbali Schools, it is sufficient to be in Muzdalifah at any hour of the second half of the night of ‘Eed Al-Adhha [i.e. the night before the day of ‘Eed]. Therefore, whoever leaves Muzdalifah after midnight it is sufficient for him and he is considered as having spent the night there, and he is not required to offer a sacrifice. According to the Maaliki School, it is enough to stay in Muzdalifah during any part of the night preceding the day of ‘Eed Al-Adhha to be considered as having fulfilled the obligation of staying overnight there, whereas the Hanafi School is of the view that staying overnight in Muzdalifah is a Sunnah.
The view we adopt here in Islamweb is the view of the Shaafi’i and Hanbali Schools.
Therefore, if you did not stay at Muzdalifah for even a moment during the second half of the night of ‘Eed Al-Adhha, then it is better for you in order to be on the safe side to offer a sacrifice and distribute it to the poor of Makkah.
Allaah Knows best.
