Sleepwear during Ihram Fatwa No: 155363
- Fatwa Date:23-8-2016
Is it due on the performer of Hajj or ‘Umrah to put on the clothes of Ihram continuously, even while sleeping?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
It is due on a person who is in the state of Ihram to avoid wearing form-fitting clothes, i.e. any item that encircles any part of the body. It is also due on him to avoid screening his head with anything that is stuck to it regardless of whether he is awake or asleep. It is unlawful for him to put on such types of clothes unless he finishes his Ihram by getting his head shaved or his hair cut short after performing Tawaaf (circumambulation) and doing Sa‘y (going back and forth between Mount Safa and Mount Marwah). it is permissible for the pilgrim to put off the Ihram clothes by the first (minor) dissolution of Ihram, which takes place by doing two actions of the following three that one in the state of Ihram does on the day of Nahr: throwing Jamrat Al-‘Aqabah, getting his head shaved or his hair cut short, and performing Tawaaf al-Ifadhah along with Sa‘y if Sa‘y is due on him after it. The second (major) dissolution, however, takes place by doing all three actions.
Allaah Knows best.
