Fatwa No: 16388

Question

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Ever Merciful
Assalamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh,
In my country, a disagreement and split has occurred among the followers of the Salafi methodology. I am extremely confused.
Please advise. May Allah greatly reward you.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds.  I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Despite the small amount of information we have about the details of the disagreement and the persons involved, it is a general rule that Islam is a religion of unity, not disunity or disagreement. Moreover, disagreement is the characteristic of the disbelievers and a sign of disbelief. Allah, The Almighty, Says (what means): {And do not be of those who associate others with Allah. [Or] of those who have divided their religion and become sects.} [Quran 30:31-32]

There are many Quranic verses and Prophetic Ahadeeth that speak unfavorably of disagreement and enjoin Muslims to be committed to the Quran and the Sunnah. Therefore, Muslims in your country and everywhere else have to renounce disagreement and hold on to true faith and sincerity.

Allah, The Almighty, Says (what means): {And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided.} [Quran 3:103]

The People of the Truth were consequently called the Followers of the Sunnah because they co-operated upon the truth and never fell into disunity.

We also advise them to effect reconciliation, cooperation,  and spread sincere advice between all the Sunnis. They should not give allegiance or show disassociation except on the basis of the Quran and the Sunnah.

Allah Knows best.
