His mobile phone has a game about Pharaoh Fatwa No: 231292
- Fatwa Date:22-12-2013
As-salaamu 3laikum, I recently bought a mobile phone which I have been in need of for a while. After I had been using the phone for a while, I noticed it had a game on it which is about pharaohs and the pyramids. When I saw this I was upset because I know that pharaoh was a major enemy of Islam. I went back to the shop and asked them to remove the game from the phone but they said that is not possible. Can I keep the phone if I never open or use that game, or must I get rid of the phone and buy another one? jazaak Allahu khair.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His Slave and Messenger.
It is not permissible to play games that contain symbols of disbelieving sects, but the existence of a forbidden game in the phone does not make it forbidden to keep it and use it what is permissible.
Also, it is not an obligation to get rid of the phone just because of this forbidden game that is in it, as it is permissible to buy, sell and keep things that can be used in both permissible and forbidden ways to those who use them only in permissible ways.
Allaah Knows best.
