Performing 'Umrah may delay his return to his family in Australia Fatwa No: 253279
- Fatwa Date:21-5-2014
as salamu alaykom wa rahmatullahi wa baraktuhu respected shiekh may Allah grant youthe glad tiddings of al firdaws my husband has been in jordan for the last month due to the death of his father and he is feeling the stress of being away from me and his children ,, he is uncomfortable because he is homeless there and staying a night at his sisters house then a night at a friends house and a night somewhere else ect and is experiencing hardship from all of this so he was about to return to us (in Australia) ,, but now a friend has offered my husband and his sister the chance to do umrah for free, they will only need to pay for the extra expenses while in Saudi but the only money he has is the money for a ticket home ,, if he does umrah he will need to stay in Jordan for another 2 months to save money to get back to australia ,, which will place a great deal of stress upon him and fear the fitna from being away from his wife and there is ,, but on the other hand he wants to visit the house of Allah and worship his lord and cherisher as we dont know when he will get another chance to do so what do you advise dear shiekh ,, should my husband do umrah and try to have patience for 2 months ,, or should he come home and hope that Allah will open a way for the both of us to do umrah or hajj together at a better time? there is no possible way for us to join him in Jordan at this time ,,
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.
The revealed texts urge Muslims to perform ‘Umrah and emphasize the virtues of it. We have already clarified this in Fataawa 82165 and 111387.
Since your husband lives in Australia, it may not be easy for him to go for ‘Umrah from there. Thus, whenever it is possible for him to take advantage of this opportunity to perform ‘Umrah, then this is better, as Allaah may open up for him the doors of sustenance in ways he would never expect on account of his performing ‘Umrah. Even if this results in a two-month delay after that in order for him to manage to get the ticket, then that is fine. In case he decides to come back to you, then this is also acceptable.
Our advice is that your husband should make a balance between the two matters and do what he believes to be more beneficial. Our advice to you is that you should be patient and supplicate Allaah to facilitate matters for him and bring him back to you safely.
Allaah Knows best.
