The narration that angels curse the man who makes a woman cry is unfounded Fatwa No: 278785
- Fatwa Date:7-1-2015
Assalamu Aleikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh. I have read this hadith or quote on many different websites where people have been sharing it and want to know its authenticity. 'If the eyes of a female cry over a man that oppressed her, than the Angels will curse him with every step he walks' -Ali Bin Abi Talib Has it been mentioned anywhere in Ahadith or Quranic verses that the man is cursed for every step he takes if he is the cause of her tears? JazakumAllah Kheir
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
We did not find this report in any Sunnah books or reliable references available to us, as many as they are. Dr. Ahmad Al-Baatili, Professor of Sunnah Sciences at the Faculty of Usool Ad-Deen at Imaam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh, was asked about this report and he answered, “It is inauthentic and it is impermissible to circulate it.”
There are many texts urging men to treat women kindly, forbidding doing any injustice to them, and warning anyone who wrongs them. For instance, Allaah, The Exalted, says (what means): {But if they obey you [once more], seek no means against them. Indeed, Allaah is ever Exalted and Grand.} [Quran 4:34]
Ibn Katheer said: “The words of Allaah {Indeed, Allaah is ever Exalted and Grand} [Quran 4:34] are a threat to men that if they transgress against women without justification, then Allaah, The Exalted and Grand, is their Protector, and He will exact revenge on those who wronged them and transgressed against them.”
Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “O Allaah, bear witness that I declare inviolable the rights of the two weak ones: orphans and women.” [Ahmad and Ibn Maajah] Al-Munaawi commented on this Hadeeth saying: “i.e., ‘O my Lord, I declare anyone who neglects the rights of orphans and women to be a sinner, and I hereby issue a stern warning against this and strongly reprimand such a person. An-Nawawi mentioned it.” [Faydh Al-Qadeer]
Abu Hurayrah also narrated that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “Be kind to women…” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
