Ruling on acting out the role of an unbeliever Fatwa No: 283123
- Fatwa Date:11-2-2015
Audoo bilahi minashytan ir rajeem bismillah hir rahman ir raheem asalamulaykum warahmatulahi wabarakatu, i alhumdulilah was speaking about Christianity and Islam at my house. I was acting like you know a big conference and whatever. However my brother was there, and we did like a QandA session. In the session he acted like a person from another religeon(so he said stuff that they usually say). Now, in the session he said "Allah" in a wierd way, is this a sin. I feel so not good for even after i realized this can lead to haram, i still insisted. I feel like i am just doomed! Am i still muslim and my brother as well? I heard making fun of islam leads to kuft, but because he was just doing it not to mock nor you know be disrespectful, is this still kufr? I am so scared. I feel like Allah didnt forgive me. I feel like i have to do so much to get the forgiveness of Allah. Please help. May Allah grant you al Jannah! Ameen.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
What your brother did is not an act of unbelief. He was merely reporting words of unbelief, not approving unbelief. Muslim scholars asserted that "A person who reports unbelief is not an unbeliever," as we clarified in Fatwa 91710.
As for acting out the role of a non-Muslim, we have previously underlined that it is impermissible since it could involve saying words of unbelief and similar prohibited acts. Please refer to Fatwa 169195.
What should be done is to repent and resolve never to do that or guide others to do it again. Whoever repents of his sin, Allaah forgives him and accepts his repentance. Please refer to Fatwa 86527 about the conditions of repentance. If you were unaware of the legal status such an act, then we sincerely hope that you are not sinful for it.
Allaah Knows best.
