No Evidence that the Voice of Prophet Had Echo, and the Companions Used to Venerate Him Fatwa No: 368776
- Fatwa Date:10-1-2018
Assalamu alaikum. I heard that prophet's voice had a natural echo. What is meant by that? And companions used feel shy of him in his presence and could not look at him because of that. So if one wants to be like that he may feel difficulty dealing with people etc. People may dislike him or he can not be too much friendly with people. So what to do?Barak Allah feekum wa jazakum Allah
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
The saying that the voice of the Prophet had a natural echo, then there is no evidence for this statement.
As for the issue that the companions used to be ashamed of him, then this is correct.
‘Urwah Ibn Mas'ood said, as in the Hadeeth of al-Hudaybiyyah about the characteristics of the Companions : “They do not look straight in his face out of respect to him.”

‘Amr ibn al-‘Aas said: “There is no one more beloved (or dearer) to me than the Prophet and no one was more sublime in my eyes than he. Never could I, pluck courage to catch a full glimpse of his face due to its splendor. So, if I am asked to describe his features, I cannot do that for I have not eyed him fully. Had I died in this state, I had every reason to hope that I would have been among the dwellers of Paradise.” [Muslim]
This was the case of the Companions with the Prophet as they hold him in high esteem and granted him a high status and standing. However, this did not prevent them from fully loving him; rather, despite this respect and standing that they had for him, they loved him more than their own children and their own selves.
It is not required of everyone to be like them, but a Muslim must follow the manners of the Prophet . He should for example, treat the people with that which is better and have a good conduct; take what is given freely, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant. If he is keen to assume the manners and conduct of the Prophet then he is upon much goodness, and Allah will make him beloved and respected in the hearts of the creation according to the extent of how much he assumes of the manners, conduct and etiquettes of the Prophet .
Allah knows best.
