Questions That Should Not Be Asked Fatwa No: 386518
- Fatwa Date:14-11-2018
Aslaam alaikum shaikh1. Allah said in Quran that it is forbidden to ask about matters which may cause trouble in Surah Maidah can you please tell me which types of questions are forbidden and which kind of form it may take?2. Secondly Allah said that Kabbah garlanded people and animals and sacred months are a asylum of security of Mankind so is these symbols are an asylum of security for Mankind (including disbelievers amongst Non Arabs) even today?
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
The verse that you referred to is the Saying of Allah (which means): {O you who have believed, do not ask about things which, if they are shown to you, will distress you. But if you ask about them while the Qur'an is being revealed, they will be shown to you. Allah has pardoned that which is past; and Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing.} [Quran 5:101]
The scholars have explained in their interpretation of the above verse the types of those questions that are forbidden to ask.
For instance, Shaykh as-Sa’di said in his Tafseer about the interpretation of the above verse:
“Allah forbids His faithful Believers from asking questions about things if they are clarified to them, they would feel bad and sorrowful.”
Some examples of this are as follows:
- Some Muslims asking the Prophet about their fathers (i.e. their parents and grandparents) whether they are in Paradise or in Hellfire. It could be that if this was clarified to the questioner, it would not be good or beneficial for him.
- Asking about matters that did not take place yet.
- Asking questions that lead to restrictions in the Sharee’ah, which may put the nation into some hardship.
- Asking questions about matters that should not be asked.
Such questions and the like are the questions that should not be asked.
As for the questions that do not lead to any of this, then this is something ordained; as Allah Says (what means): {So ask the people of the message if you do not know.} [Quran 16:43]
Finally, we apologize for not answering your second question; because we indicated in the question entry section that only one question is allowed at a time. It is only one question that is answered when more than one question is asked.
