Giving non-Muslims a translated copy of the meaning of the Quran Fatwa No: 64325
- Fatwa Date:6-12-2007
Is it permissible to give a Christian a copy of the Quran (meaning) translated into English as a means of calling him to Islam?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.
It is the duty of every Muslim to exert all efforts to call people to Allaah. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, informed us that if a Muslim succeeds in guiding a single person to the right path of Islam - it will be better for him than attaining enormous fortunes. [Al-Bukhari]
With regards to your question about giving a Christian a translated copy of the meaning of the Quran, it is permissible, provided that it does not include the Arabic text of the Quran.
However, it is preferable to call this Christian first to Islam and to discuss it with him and to recite the Quran to him and translate its meaning to him in the hope of convincing him. Then, as a second step, he may be given a translated copy of the meaning of the Quran to read and consider its meanings when alone.
Allaah Knows best.
