Spitting on Hands and Wiping Body after Reciting Al-Faatihah Fatwa No: 81916
- Fatwa Date:5-5-2000
After we read al-Fatiha we spit on our hands and massage all our body. Can we benefit from it to cure our kids and ourselves?
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
The following two matters should be mentioned:
1. Many people have got used to reciting Al-Faatihah immediately after any occasion or gathering. There is no evidence from the Sharee’ah for this practice. Persistence in practicing this act is considered as an innovation.
The permissible act according to the Sunnah of the Prophet is that one should say at the end of any meeting the following supplication. The Prophet said: “Whoever sits in a gathering and indulges in useless talk and before getting up supplicates saying: 'Subhaanaka Allaahumma wa bihamdika, Ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illa Anta, Astaghfiruka wa atoobu ilayk (O Allah, You are free from every imperfection; praise be to You. I testify that there is None truly worthy of worship except You; I ask Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance),’ he will be forgiven for the sins he has committed in that assembly.” [At-Tirmithi]
2. If a person or any of his relatives becomes ill, it is permissible for him to recite the last three Soorahs; i.e., Chapters 112, 113, 114, and blow his breath over his hands and rub them over the body and the place of the pain (of the sick person). ‘Aa’ishah narrated that when the Prophet became ill, he would recite Chapters 113 and 114 and blow on his hands and then rub with his hands over his body. During his death sickness, I recited the Mu'awidhatayn (i.e., Chapters 113 and 114) and blew my breath over him as he used to blow.”
Another narration reads: “I used to recite Chapters 113 and 114 and blow my breath over him and make him rub his body with his hands because they were more blessed than mine.”
There is no harm in blowing some light saliva.
Allah knows best.
